New product development
and product innovation
There are countless great ideas that could become successful products but will never see the light of day. Why? The new product development stage is usually where those great ideas fizzle and die. If technical people with limited imagination try to create something new and exciting, they will usually fail. Technicians make great builders, but you need concept people to come up with new designs and marketing strategies to sell them. For the general public to want something, it has to be presented properly. It doesn’t matter whether people need the product or not. There are lots of “essential” items that have been created over the years which have gone nowhere when they hit the retail shelves. More attention in the product development stage could have prevented that from happening.
If you have an existing product that you think should sell but doesn’t, let our product innovation team take a look! We will review your product and recommend a plan to create a solution for your dilemma. Our people know the answers to questions that are puzzling you. Our research and extensive experience tells us what works and what doesn’t. Most buying patterns make perfect sense, but some consumer behaviors aren’t predictable. Those behaviors are called trends, and they can be exploited to create a large influx of short term sales on products that might only be popular for a season. We can help you determine when that season has arrived.
Redefine the possibilities & force competitors to play your game
Liljeqvist & Wargo brings new ideas to
market and re-energizes existing brands
by looking beyond the obvious to identify unique opportunities and seize competitive advantages. We use strategic thinking and innovative approaches and to change the game and build market leaders. Our strategic branding and design team is among the best in the industry and the minds behind our ideas and marketing strategies are among the most creative you will find anywhere. We can take your business from the concept stage all the way to measurable success, keeping you involved every step of the way so the identity we create has a piece of you embedded within it.
Before we begin the process of creating a winning brand or developing packaging for products, we do thorough research into your company, your products, and your customers. Target markets are a great idea, provided you’re shooting at the right target. We analyze demographics to determine who the most likely candidates are to buy your products. We’ll also do a SKU rationalization to determine which of those products are worth keeping and which should be discarded. This initial analysis and auditing process goes beyond simple supply and demand statistics– it can tell us if we’ll be able to address an existing need with a new product.
Maximize your sales
with responsible packaging
The environmentally conscious consumer will be more likely to buy your new plastic bottle design if you take their sensibilities into account. If you watch the ads that have come out recently, you’ll notice that many of the companies that use plastic bottles are streamlining them to be thinner and have less impact on the environment. This is called responsible packaging and at L&W we know how to make it happen. Going green means more than just buying a hybrid or changing your water heater to a solar energy model. Changes can be made in almost every area of our lives. We try to incorporate that theme into as much of the work we do as possible.
From structural design
to package design
Once market research has been done, we’ll have the information we need to look at structural design. Will your customers buy what you’re selling? Is its form and function something they will find appealing? Is it destined to be a novelty or is it something useful that will fill a definite need in their everyday lives? Are there any other companies manufacturing something similar and what forms do their products in this category take? You’ll want your products to be new and innovative, but a square wheel won’t take you anywhere. Our job is to be creative, but not unrealistic.
Part of that structural design research is looking at packaging for products. The way an item looks on a retail shelf or displayed on a web page is a big part of whether or not a consumer will buy it. The packaging has to be impactful, colors have to be just right, and the brand needs to be memorable. We don’t want consumers stumbling over the name of a great product they want to recommend but can’t remember. One of our specialties is keeping things simple. Complicated packaging confuses consumers and doesn’t sell.
